Hey guys,
Last week i sent out an email to you about the district convention.
Due to some kind of computer snafu, it appears the list serve never
actually sent the email so here it.. hopefully not too late for some of
you to still attend. hope to see you there.
Below is the message from last week:
hey all,
Next weekend is our triennial (every three years) district convention.
This is a time when our church (the larger "church") elects officers,
sets policies, etc. A pastoral delegate and a lay delegate from each
congregation will be there to meet, worship, and serve the Lord. This
is a great opportunity to let folks know about our campus ministry and
seek to make some connections that might allow us to serve better. For
example if the pastors or lay people know some one going to Northern
that they can connect with Refuge.
the following link contains most of the information you need to know
about the convention (like location, schedule, etc.)
http://www.ni.lcms.org/convention/2006/default.html
We will have a table set up in the "display area" with a computer
running a power point presentation. Feel free to hang around the table
when people are in the display room and talk up the program, also hoping
to make some of these connections. Feel free also to come observe the
convention and learn about how the bigger church operates. I'll be the
delegate from Immanuel so I'll be in the "voting area" but can come out
to hang for short periods of time. If you see that I am missing, that is
most likely because I am also vice chairing a committee that may need to
meet during the convention business. Look for me or ask somebody who
seems to be in charge and most likely they can find me if I am
available.
We don't really need to work "shifts", just come when you can, God will
open the right doors at the right times to talk to people. Certainly
the more time we have people there, the better, but don't stress if the
table needs to be left "unmanned". Feel free to worship with the group
on Saturday night at 7pm and hear the president of the Missouri Synod
preach! he's really good!
I'm excited for you all to take part in this because not only is it good
for the program, but I hope to see many of you serving as leaders in
congregations and perhaps back in future years as voting delegates.
Remember you guys are the future leaders of our church (big church).
The sooner we get you all "ramped up" the better we can all serve God!
If you have any questions, please email me and I'll try to help.
I suspect there will be some sort of car pool going from DeKalb, (or
other parts like Rockford) so start talking (emailing) one another and
see how you all can make it to some part of this exciting event.
I'm proud to show you all off to the church at large, you all are some
of God's finest work and I'm lucky and honored to get to work with you
all.
Blessings ,
Pastor Marty
