Hey All,
Here's one of my favorite Bible passages:
"Wherewith shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God?
shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of
rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of
my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good;
and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with thy God?"
Micah 6: 6-8
This is kind of a strange passage to pick as a favorite, but look closer.
What the prophet Micah is saying here is that nothing we do is good enough
to make us right with God. All of the sacrificing and feast days and
everything else required by the Old Testament law doesn't cut it. Which was
precisely the point. By continually failing to fulfill the Law perfectly,
the Israelites learned how much they needed a Savior. It's not about us and
what we do--it's about God and what He does to save us. This doesn't., of
course, mean we do whatever we want, but it does mean that we need to take
the focus off of our own works and put them on God's goodness. Our lives
aren't about us. They're about Him.
Now, on to business! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
