Hey All,
Will this semester every be over?!?!
That, at least, has been my thought for a while. I became so overwhelmed
with school and work and all that good stuff that I figured I was a strong
enough Christian to start missing church every now and then and cutting my
time with God way down. After all, it was more time to get some much-needed
sleep, and it wasn't like I wasn't still a Christian. But, as with all of
His commandments, God doesn't tell us to be in fellowship with other
believers because He's trying to make our lives difficult. In fact, He's
trying to make it easier for us. I found myself getting cranky, critical,
and feeling rather uncharitable towards my friends and family. In addition,
I felt more overwhelmed, instead of more rested. And that's why God wants us
to be involved with other Christians and spending time with Him. Despite all
of our best intentions, we simply can't be strong, joyful Christians by our
own efforts. We need His help. And He will give it to us, but we have to do
our part by continuing to seek His glory and continuing to grow in Him by
staying in the Word and being planted in a church community. It's well worth
the extra hour of sleep.
So, on to business! Here's what's going on this week at Refuge:
Monday, Oct. 16: lounge open from 6:00-10:00
Tuesday, Oct. 17: Pastor-led Bible study on Luke at 9:00, intramural V-Ball
game at 9:15
Wednesday, Oct. 18: Discussion group. This week is Pastor Marty on worship
Thursday, Oct. 19: Women's Bible Study, time tentative, place UNDISCLOSED!
(unless you're female:-) The time will depend on whether or not the V-Ball
team wins Tuesday and if they have to play Thursday. Watch facebook for
announcements.
Friday, Oct. 20: Service night at Oakcrest Retirement Home. We'll be playing
bingo with the residents from 6-8 pm. Meet at the church at 5:40.
Saturday, Oct. 21: HOMECOMING! Immanuel will have a float, so come on down
to the parade in the morning (9-11 am) to cheer us on. After the game, we'll
be heading back to the church for a BBQ with past and present members of
Refuge. Always a good time!
Future Dates:
Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 pm will be the Halloween Party at the church. Come
in costume!
