Hey all!
As we've all realized about now as we hike to class in the wind, fall
is here! This is also the time of the semester when the stress begins
to build: papers due, presentations to prepare, friends that we really
want to hang out with, if only we had the time. In the midst of all
that, it's easy to fall into the "fitting God into my life" mentality.
But remember, He wants so much more than fifteen minutes a day of
Bible reading. He wants everything, all of you, all the time. So the
next test you study for, the next friend you hang out with, remember
that it's not about us fitting Him into our lives, but about us
fitting into His plan. And amazingly enough, He invites us to be a
part of that plan, and somehow, the small stresses all work out as we
keep our eyes on His big picture. How humbling is that?
Speaking of fall, it's time for INTRAMURALS!!! If you are at all
interested in being a part of Refuge's intramural football or
volleyball teams, email Will Michaels ASAP at wmtenner at aol.com.
Here's what's happening this week at Refuge:
Sunday: worship services at 8:00 and 10:30. The later service will,
as always, be followed by a pancake breakfast in the lounge
downstairs.
Monday, Sept. 25: lounge open 6:00-10:00
Tuesday, Sept. 26: Pastor-led Bible study at 9:00. Join us as we look
through the book of Luke. (That is the closest I will ever come to a
rap. Thank your lucky stars for that.)
Wednesday, Sept. 27: Discussion group at 9:00. This week, Will is
leading us through the second chapter of Philippians, one of Paul's
letters from prison.
Thursday, Sept. 28: Women's Bible study at 7:00. This week, we'll
meet at the church at 7:00 before heading to Panera Bread for the
Word, C.S. Lewis's "Mere Christianity," and, of course, coffee,
chocolate, and girl talk. The guys...I think they hang out and play
poker, so if you're a guy with a need to play some cards, stop by the
lounge! Saturday is the women's study social event...see below.
Friday, Sept. 29: WALLEYBALL!!!!!!!! Meet at the church at 6:00, and
we'll head over to the rec together. If you've never played, you're
missing out on loads of fun. Think volleyball, only with walls, hence
the name.
Saturday, Sept. 30: GIRLS' NIGHT!!! Ladies, meet at 6:00 at the church
if you'd like to join us all for dinner first. After that, we'll be
heading over to the convo for the women's volleyball game. If you're
interested in joining us for part but not all, or you'd like to find
out who else might be coming, or whatever, email Nikki at
nkooistr at niu.edu, and she'll make sure we all meet up eventually.
A few things to keep on your calendar:
Oct. 7th--We'll be doing volunteer work at the DeKalb Area Women's
Center. The scheduled time is 10:00-3:00, but there will be people
coming and going throughout, so don't feel pressured to stay the whole
five hours. The DAWC always provides lunch, too.
Oct. 21--homecoming parade at 9:00 am. Immanuel will have a float, so
be there to cheer us on!
Have a fantastic week, and we hope to see you around.
Cheerio!
