[LSF-Announce] This Week at Refuge

Hey All,

A quote from St. Augustine, one of the fathers of the church:

"You stir man to take pleasure in praising You, because You have made us for
Yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in You." (the *
Confessions*).

Augustine struggled long and hard against the Holy Spirit's call.  He found
pleasure in the world, in intellectual pursuits, in heresies...and finally,
he collapsed into the arms of God.  And there, he found peace.  God created
us for Himself.  The Sunday-school version is that there is a "Jesus-sized
hole" in our hearts, an emptiness that only God can fill.  Well, the
Sunday-school version is right.  But how do we "find rest" in God,
practically? It's one thing to say it, but another thing to carry it out.  I
don't really know.  I think maybe it involves bringing everything to God all
the time, keeping Him and His Word constantly in mind, and asking His help
to obey His commandments.  And at last, when we messed up or we're feeling
messed up and confused and we don't know what to do, we collapse and go
"God, I haven't the least idea what to do here. I don't even know how to
identify what's wrong.  Please help me." And there, at that point that we
surrender to God and admit that we know nothing, He does something amazing.


All right, on to business.  Here's what's going on this week at Refuge.
FIRST of all, for those who are maybe tempted to not read this emai, note
the *BRAILLEATHON*! This Friday, at 9:00, at the church. We gather and make
braille books of the Bible, eat pizza, have a worship time, and generally
have fun and take entirely too many incriminating photos of Brian playing
the drums.


Tuesday, April 10: Pastor-led Bible study on Luke at 9:00.

Wednesday, April 11: Women's Bible study.  Meet in the lounge at 8:00, and
from there, we'll go to an UNDISCLOSED location.  MEN: Meet in the lounge at
8:00, and Will and Justin will have something awesome in store.

Thursday, April 12: Bible study on Revelation at 9:00 in the lounge. Jenna
and Mitch do their darnedest to explain those maddening horsefly-like
things.

Friday, April 13: YES, it IS Friday the 13th:-) Brailleathon at 9:00 pm at
the church until the next morning sometime.

Sunday, April 15: Worship at 8:00 and 10:30, with pancakes in the lounge
following the 10:30 service.

papers that are beginning to pile up.
