Greetings all and welcome back!
 
Things are heating up here in DeKalb as we get ready for "Move in
Days!".  Our peer ministers have met and planned out some awesome
ministry this semester.  You and anybody you you know is welcome to take
part in any and every thing I list below. As a matter of fact, you might
want to forward this message to any one who you think might be
interested.
On Thursday August 23rd starting at 8:30 am we are going to be handing
out water bottles on Campus.  The bottles have a label that tells about
our ministry and activities.  We have 5,000 to give away so we are going
to be at it most of the day (we should wrap up by about 3pm.)  If you
want to come help hand out bottles for ANY time during 8:30 am and 3pm
please join us! We will have one station on Lucinda right in front of
Douglas hall and another over by Grant towers.  
 
Later Thursday evening we are going to set up the tent for our big
picnic and can use some extra helping hands.  We will set the tent up at
about 6:30 pm that night, so come help be part of the "big top".
 
On Friday feel free to stop by and see our table at Friday fest
immediately following the Academic convocation (at the convo center.)
Friday is also our international student welcome picnic.  Starting at
5:30pm we will be serving a chicken and "pot luck" dinner to about 200
people. the meal is free and you are encouraged to come and eat.  While
eating, mingle with these new students from all around the world who are
brand new to our country and community.  
 
On Saturday you should go check out cornfest.  Free corn will be given
out in the early afternoon and there is always something interesting to
see at Cornfest.  An "unofficial group" might be taking a trip down
there. If you want to be part of it, put up a note on the Refuge face
book group.
 
Sunday we gather to Worship God at 8am and 10:30 am.  Peer ministers are
going to be installed during the services and pancakes will be served
after the 10:30 service. Don't miss your first chance back to hang with
God and all (well not all, but a whole big group of) His friends.
There will be a College Bible Study at 9:15 am for the first two weeks
of the semester, then a "broader" adult class on the book of Genesis
will begin for all members of the congregation.
 
Sunday afternoon is also HUGE at Immanuel: We will have a free BBQ for
all students at 4pm.  Come have fun (we'll play outdoor games like
volleyball, football, bocce ball, bags, etc. as well as hang inside in
the air-conditioning) and EAT !  Bring your friends... bring you
enemies... just come and be here... this is the event you don't want to
miss!!
 
Then on Monday we start the regular programming.  
Monday at 9pm is the "Popcorn Bible study" led by the peer ministers.
Wonder what a popcorn Bible study is all about? better come check it
out, and YES there will be popcorn there to eat.
 
On Tuesday at 9pm is the Pastor Led Bible study at 9pm. The old guy with
the beard (and now glasses!!! ugg) will be leading a study on the Gospel
of John.
 
Wednesday is Women's Bible study at 8pm... the topic may be chosen, but
as a male this is information I am not privy to :)  Ladies come join
Nikki Kooistra for a Bible study just for women. Guys, as usual, you can
hang in the lounge (games and TV are a good past time) and catch a
glimpse of the ladies before and after their "private time."
 
As in years past, come to a Bible study and get a certificate for a free
dominoes Pizza.
 
We als oplan on having lots of social activies and lots of "hanging out"
in the lounge... come join in the newest game craze- Settlers of Catan,
we can't seem to get enough of it around here!
 
Well this has gotten WAY TOO long so I'll sign off for now... I can't
wait to see you all. Stop by and say "Hi" when you get back to town...
I've missed you!!
