Hey All,

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In
this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the
world." (John 16:33)

So, here's the story behind this verse. Jesus had just told his
disciples that hard times were coming, times when they would desert
Him. But He encourages them to "take heart," in spite of the terrible,
terrible persecution and death He (and they) would face. Life is
rough. If you're a freshman, you're probably wondering what you're
doing at NIU and if you made the right decision. If you're a
sophomore or junior, you're probably thinking about majors, or
thinking about changing majors, and feeling kind of lost in the whole
process. If you're a senior, you're likely scared to death of being
out in the "real world" come graduation time. Maybe family is sick,
maybe relationships are rocky, or maybe you're just generally
depressed by this rather chilly weather we're having. But take heart!
Christ has overcome the world and all its troubles so that you may
have eternal life in Him. So whatever you're going through right now,
remember that.

OK, so here's what's happening at Refuge the remainder of this week.
(Sorry this is so late. It's been one of those weeks for me, too.)

Wednesday, Feb. 7: Women's Bible study. Meet at the church at 8:00,
and from there we'll go to an UNDISCLOSED LOCATION. Guys will meet at
8:00 in the lounge for a Bible study on...umm....something or other
awesome, I'm sure.

Thursday, Feb. 8: Bible study on Revelation at 9:00 in the lounge.
Come to talk about the general confusion that is Revelation.

Sunday, Feb. 12: worship at 8:00 and 10:30, with pancakes in the
lounge following the 10:30 service. Refuge will be selling flowers for
Valentine's Day (which is...ahem....just to remind you
all....ahem....next Wednesday) this Sun. after the service, so bring a
couple of bucks to pick up some flowers and support us.

Also, keep the upcoming Brailleathon on your calendars: Feb. 23, from
7 pm-7am. We hang out at the church all night making braille Bibles
for the visually impaired. And there is, of course, pizza involved.

Blessings,

Nikki
