Hey All,
This may sound a little like a Hallmark card, but bear with me.
True story: A few weeks ago, my family was out to dinner at Applebess. We
had finished and gotten up to leave when a waitress came running up to my
mom. "Jan!" she said. "Remember me?" Mom and Dad did, but my sis and I
hadn't a clue who this lady was. She then looked at me and said, "Your mom
got me through high school."
In the parking lot on the way to the car, I asked Mom who it was she had
been speaking to and how Mom had gotten her through high school. Mom
answered, "Oh, that was Beth. She had it kind of rough growing up, and I
always just felt bad for her." Apparently my mom's kindness had meant more
to this lady than my mom realized. When we obey Christ's commandments to
love others as we love ourselves and to be kind and tender-hearted, we don't
always see that our kindness is doing anybody any good. Sometimes, in fact,
those whom we reach out to may even respond in hostility, or perhaps it
simply doesn't seem worth the effort we put into it. But God has commanded
it, and that's all the reason we need. The encouraging part is that we
never really know how our interactions with others affect them. Something
we thought was no big deal may have been enough to get that person through a
trying time in his or her life. Likewise, some missed opportunity to do
good or some harsh word may have a more devastating effect than we'd counted
on. Like always, it's better to stick with what God tells us to do in His
Word.
All right, down to business. Here's what's going on this week at Refuge:
Monday, Feb. 19: Lounge open from 6:00-10:00
Tuesday, Feb. 20: Pastor-led Bible study on Luke at 9:00 in the lounge
Wednesday, Feb. 21: Women's Bible study. Meet at the church at 9:00 and
head from there to some undisclosed location. In fact, it's so undisclosed,
I have no idea where it will be this week:-) Men, meet at 8:00 at the
church for a Bible study on one of the letters of Paul.
Thursday, Feb. 22: Bible study at 9:00 on Revelation
Friday, Feb. 23: *BRAILLE-A-THON!!!!!!! *From 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, we will
be making braille Bibles at the church. (obviously, we'll be showing
everyone how to do this) There will be pizza at some point in the evening
and a praise time at 12:00 am. This is one of our biggest events of the year
and a great opportunity both to serve others and get to know each other, so
COME! No excuses accepted.
Sunday, Feb. 25: Worship at 8:00 and 10:30, with free pancakes in the lounge
following the 10:30 service.
All right, I think that's it for now. On a random note, remember that March
1 is priority filing deadline for the FAFSA, so don't forget that. (I keep
forgetting, which is why I brought it up:-)
God Bless,
Nikki
