[LSF-Announce] This Week at Refuge

Hey All,

A few words I ripped off of a talk given to the peer ministers by our
district president, Pastor Dan Gilbert:

"There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the
LORD came to him: "'What are you doing here, Elijah?'" (I Kings 19:9)

After Elijah's great victory over the prophets of Baal, Queen Jezebel
threatened to kill him, and he went into the desert to hide. Worn
out, discouraged, and feeling completely overwhelmed, he "went into a
cave and spent the night." But God had a question for Elijah, and it
is one we should all ask ourselves daily. "What am I doing here?"
The obvious answer goes something like: "Well, I'm going to school, so
I can get a degree, so I can get a job." But God's Word encourages us
to keep our focus on the big picture. What are you really doing here?
Because ultimately, whatever the short-term goal is, the big goal is
to do the will of God, to do our utmost for His glory, to spread God's
Word to the world, wherever we are, and whatever we're doing. So
whatever you're doing, don't lose track of that big picture. And let
us all thank God for the opportunity to be a part of something so
awesome.

All right, so here's what's new this week at Refuge:

Mon, Jan. 22: Lounge open, 6:00-10:00

Tues, Jan. 23: Pastor-led Bible study on Luke, 9:00 in the lounge

Wed, Jan. 24: Women's Bible study. We're working on the Screwtape
Letters, which is totally easy to get into no matter where you pick up
in the book, so COME! We'll meet at 8:00 at the church and go to an
undisclosed location from there. GUYS: There's going to be a Bible
study on one of the letters of Paul at the same time at the church, so
come on over.

Thurs, Jan. 25: Bible study on that most confusing of confusing books,
Revelation, led by Jenna Dooley (formerly Jenna Wright. Congrats Jenna
and Justin!) and Mitch Beetcher at the church at 9:00.

Sun, Jan. 28: Worship at 8:00 and 10:30, with pancakes in the lounge
following the 10:30 service. This week is the peer minister
installation, so come and watch us stand awkwardly at the front of the
church if you need a good laugh.

That's all for now. I hope you're all having a wonderful beginning of
the semester.

God Bless,
Nikki
