Hey all,

As a supplement to Nikki's awesome emails, I occasionally send out one
of my own. I wanted to get you all thinking and planning ahead for two
big events going on with our campus ministry.

Two sets of dates to mark on your calendar start planning for:

February 16-17 (Friday and Saturday) we are going to Michigan for the
Leadership/ peer minister conference. Over 100 student leaders from
Lutheran campus ministries gather to share ideas, fellowship and grow in
our service to God. The whole event lasts less than 24 hours but it is
amazing how many memories get crammed into that time. Ask anyone who has
been to one before. IF you are already leading or want to learn more
about being a leader in our campus ministry (or even just pick up some
leadership skills for use in other parts of God's kingdom) please email
me or let me know that you are interested in attending this conference.
There is no cost (all meals, travel and registration are covered for
you!) but I do need to know ASAP if you thinking of attending. The
deadline to sign up is Sunday February 11th, but the earlier you can
tell me the better it is for our planning. You will be able to attend
any classes you have on Friday and will be back by 10pm on Saturday
night. I hope you can join us!

March 10- 18th SPRING BREAK!!!!!
Picture Justin Dooley yelling "spring break" you can't help but get
back in the mood to go to New Orleans again. We will be heading down to
New Orleans on Saturday the 10th of March and returning on 18th (Sunday
evening.) The cost will be about $100 which includes travel, most meals
(you may need to buy a meal or 2 while we drive down and back) and a
place to stay. As in previous years, if the money flow looks good, I'll
try to give you some of the $100 back to spend on our "fun day" on the
return trip. Most likely we'll stop in Memphis Tennessee again and get
to hang out on Beal Street, but we'll let the group going figure out how
best to have fun. More importantly is the ability help people who are
still in great need down in New Orleans. We will be staying at a base
camp that used to be a Lutheran School, but now has bunk beds for
volunteers in all of the class rooms. We may be doing some "mucking
out" of houses still not cleaned up, we may help in the rebuilding of
some houses under the direction of a skilled craftsman or we may do
things as simple as mow the grass for poor families who can't move back
into their house yet and are getting charged by the city for having
their lawns over grown. Our goal will be to serve as Christ would where
ever the need is greatest, which we won't know for sure until we get
down there.
I will need to know by mid February who is going (no deadline is set
yet) but it would also be helpful to know if you are thinking about
going so that I can line up the right amount of transportation and
proper accommodations. IF you've never been on one of our springbreak
servant trips, you should really check it out. Ask any one who has gone
on one, it really makes an impact on you and makes you a better servant
of Jesus. While it is against my nature, we do allow just a bit of fun
as well :)
Email me or talk to me ASAP if you have any questions about the trip or
you are wanting to sign up. in February I'll put a sign up down in the
lounge, but you can email me before then if you know earlier.

Blessings to you all, and I look forward to serving Christ with you this
semester.

In Christ,

Pastor Marty
