Hey All,
Check out this:
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your
gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about
anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
(Philippians 4: 4-7)
For me so far, it's been a stressful semester. I just started graduate
school, but the thing is, I really don't know what I want to do AFTER
graduate school or WHY I'm here. Which has me kind of freaking out. The
Apostle Paul wrote these words from prison to the Philippian church to thank
them for a gift. Paul, from the confines of prison and amidst the
uncertainty of not knowing what was giong to happen to him, wrote to
"rejoice in the Lord." What does that even mean? Honestly, I'm not positive.
But I think it has something to do with clinging to the promises God has
made us and the amazing Gift he has given us--eternal life through Christ.
We were not made for this world, so no matter how confusing this world gets,
we should focus on Christ's work on the cross and remember that in Him, we
have everything that we need. And while we're at it, we should bring our
troubles to Christ, the One great enough to bear all our burdens and make us
into the people He wants us to be.
And now, on to business. First, a few notes:
INTRAMURALS: If you're interested, there's a sign-up in the lounge for the
various sports. Right now, we're just trying to figure out what teams might
be a possibility, so check out the lounge or let John Sprinkle know. (He's
on facebook, and he's a great guy anyway, so make him your friend!)
LONGE HOURS: On Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the lounge
is open from 6:00-10:00 pm for studying, hanging out, whatever. If you need
a computer account, let me know, and I'll get you one.
Monday, Sept. 10: Popcorn Bible study at 9:00. This week, we're finishing up
the flood, and yes, there will be popcorn:-)
Tuesday, Sept. 11: Pastor-led Bible study on John at 9:00.
Wednesday, Sept 12: Women's Bible study at 8:00. Meet at the church, and
we'll delve into more of C.S. Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters." Chocolate
provided!
Thursday, Sept. 13: Lounge hours from 6:00-10:00 with John Sprinkle and Matt
Olson, all the entertainment you could ever want...
Friday, Sept. 14: SOCIAL EVENT!!!!! Meet us at the church at 7:30, and we'll
head over to the Huskie Den for bowling, pool, and whatever else we feel
like doing! (If you can't make it by 7:30, just meet as there!)
Sunday, Sept. 16: Worship at 8:00 and 10:30, with pancakes following the
10:30 service.
All right, that's it for now. Good luck with the third week of school! Only
twelve more to go after this!
Peace out,
Nikki
