Hey All,

A few words from C.S. Lewis that I found encouraging:

"If all the world were Christian, it might not matter if all the world were
uneducated. But, as it is, a cultural life will exist outside the Church
whether it exists inside or not. To be ignorant and simple now--not to be
able to meet the enemies on their own ground--would be to throw down our
weapons, and to betray our uneducated brethren who have, under God, no
defence but us against the intellectual attacks of the heathen. Good
philosohy must exist, if for no other reason, because bad philosophy needs
to be answered." (From "Learning in War-Time" in *The Weight of Glory*)

We're all in college, so, presumably, we're all getting some kind of
education. And there may be times where we wonder why on earth we're
bothering. Is it for a career? Is it for money? Is it for security? Really,
college helps with all of those things, none of which are bad in and of
themselves. But getting an education also helps us to think better, and thus
to better defend our faith against those who attack it. I got into an
argument with an agnostic a few weeks ago concerning the truth of
Christianity. I didn't do well, but if I hadn't had four years of training
in how to use my brain, I would have completely flopped. So, in the words of
St. Paul, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the
glory of God." (I Cor. 10:31) Those classes you thought were irrelevant may
come in handy in ways you couldn't foresee.

And now, to business. Firstly, if YOU ARE INTERESTED IN INTRAMURALS, CONTACT
JOHN SPRINKLE ASAP!!!!!!! (jsprinkl at niu.edu) The deadline for expressing
interest is tomorrow night after Bible study.

Monday, Sept. 17: Popcorn Bible study at 9:00. Courtney Newton will be
sharing some of her experiences of the summer, when she attended a training
program in helping patients both spiritually AND physically.

Tuesday, Sept. 18: Pastor-led Bible study on John

Wednesday, Sept. 19: Women's Bible study at 8:00. Meet at the church, and
we'll supply food:-)

Thursday, Sept. 20: John and Matt rocking out in the lounge. Or playing
Settlers. Or doing whatever they do. Bottom line, if you're around, you
should stop by and say hi.

Sunday, Sept. 23: Worship at 8:00 and 10:30, with pancakes in the lounge
following the 10:30 service.

ALSO, you might want to make a note on your calendars. On Friday, Sept. 28,
at 7:30, we'll be having a general hang-out night in the lounge. Movies,
pizza, Settlers, air hockey, hears, other forms of card games, etc. You
should come!

Think that's all!

Take care, and have an awesome week.

Nikki
